Are you at risk of type 2 diabetes?

Assessing your risk is free and only takes a few minutes.

The Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool (AUSDRISK) is a quick, simple and easy way to assess your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

The Australian Type 2 Diabetes Risk Assessment Tool was originally developed by Baker IDI on behalf of the Australian, State and Territory Governments as part of the COAG Diabetes reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes initiative.

Calculate your risk by visiting the Diabetes SA facethefacts website.

An estimated 2 million Australians are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

People often don’t know they’re at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Yet up to 58% of type 2 diabetes is preventable with a healthy lifestyle – that’s eating well, staying active and maintaining a healthy weight.

What do my scores mean?

High risk

If you have a score of 12 or over, you have at least a 1 in 14 chance of developing diabetes. You may have undiagnosed diabetes or be at high risk of developing the condition. For scores of 20 and above, approximately one person in every 3 will develop diabetes.

Moderate risk

If you have a score between 6-8, you have at least a 1 in 50 chance of developing diabetes. For scores of 9-11, approximately one person in every 30 will develop diabetes.

Low risk

If you have a score of 5 or less, you have less than 1 in every 100 chance of developing diabetes in the next five years.

Next steps

If you score less than 6, your risk for having diabetes is low. However, your risk can change over time. Be sure to schedule regular check-ups with your doctor, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

If you scored 6-11 points in the AUSDRISK you should discuss your score and your risk with your doctor, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

If you scored 12 and higher in the AUSDRISK you need to see your doctor for further clinical investigation. Don’t wait for signs and symptoms to develop, as these may not appear until blood glucose levels are quite high.
