Kellion Victory Medal
The Kellion Victory Medal is given to recognise Australians who have lived with type 1 or type 2 diabetes for 50 years, or more.
The Kellion Victory Medal is named after Claude Kellion, a Sydney businessman.
When diabetes claimed the life of his son John at the age of 38, Claude established the Kellion Diabetes Foundation in his son’s memory.
Silver-plated 50 year Victory Medals and gold-plated 60 year Victory Medals are awarded to recipients, together with certificates.
There is now also provision for 70 and 75 year medals with 80 and 85 year awards discussed with the recipient.
A further addition to the Kellion Victory Medals Scheme is the Kellion Carer's Award. Having diabetes affects the whole family and to have an award that recognises the role the carer plays in assisting a person with diabetes to live a full and satisfying life is very important.
Diabetes Australia is keen to trace all Australians who have had diabetes for 50 years or more. Doctors and health care professionals, as well as Diabetes Associations and support groups are encouraged to nominate likely recipients.
