Diabetes SA announces the fourth round of diabetes research funding.

Through the generous support of our members, corporate partners and donors Diabetes SA has been able to support research into diabetes almost since our inception. This has allowed Diabetes SA to fund research towards prevention, detection, management and a cure for diabetes.

With a dedicated internal research team focused on the delivery of the best evidence-based programs and services and an external Research Grants Program that supports the brightest researchers in diabetes, together we can change the future for all people living with or at risk of diabetes.

Since 2018, Diabetes SA has provided $770,750 to eleven South Australian researchers through three external grants programs.

In 2024 Diabetes SA has increased it's commitment to funding outstanding research in Australia with the introduction of a new $100,000 research grant (two-year award) specifically for type 1 diabetes research, made possible through the generosity of the late Ms Sieglinde Hannelore Darsow or ‘Hanni’ as she is fondly remembered.

The grant will be known as the Sieglinde Hannelore Darsow Type 1 Diabetes Award.

In addition, Diabetes SA will offer:
1) $100,000 Research Grant (two-year award) – 1 grant
2) $50,000 Research Grant (one-year award) – 2 grants

Diabetes SA’s commitment to research funding will be $300,000 in the 2024 grant funding round bringing the organisation’s total commitment to $1,070,750.

The Diabetes SA Research Grants are intended to support innovative and creative diabetes research projects that seek to challenge and shift current paradigms and or have a major impact on health research in diabetes.

Funding will support diabetes research conducted by researchers of any career stage from discovery to implementation that is focused within the Diabetes SA priority areas of prevention, detection and management. All applications will be assessed on merit.

Applications for research grants will be accepted from appropriately qualified health professionals and researchers aligned to an institution.

Applications open Monday 4 March 2024 and close 5pm 12 April 2024.
